Want to improve your ball striking? Of course you do; everyone does. Understand and improve impact! Whether you subscribe to a 1 plane swing, 2 plane swing, Stack and Tilt or whatever, I don't care, but look at all great ball strikers impact and you will see the same thing.

  1. Weight posted over lead leg (right handed player's left leg)
  2. From face on lead hip, knee, and ankle appear to be a straight line
  3. Back heel and knee moved toward lead leg
  4. Hips open to intended target line
  5. Shoulders either square or slightly open to intended target line (separation between upper and lower half of body)
  6. Hands in line with lead hip or ahead of the ball with everything but the driver
  7. Lead wrist flat, elbow extended, and upper arm still connected to upper body
  8. Shaft of club leans forward except with driver which means the club is still on it's descending arc through the ball
Have I missed anything? You could work on just impact all season with your CPGA coach and have lots to fill your practice time.

Spring Tune Up
Is this the year for you to improve your golf? Lower scores, better ball striking, whatever? Here is a sure fire way to do it.

  1. Set a realistic goal for yourself (how will you know you've arrived if you don't know where you're going)
  2. Find a qualified CPGA coach you're comfortable working with to help you achieve your goal.
  3. Practice with a purpose and dedicate 50% of that practice time to your short game.
Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott of ‘Vision 54’ fame challenged 2011 British Open champion Darren Clarke to get up and down 18 times in a row from random locations around the green. It took him 6 months to complete this task!! Maybe set your goal at getting up and down 3 or 4 times in a row in a short game practice session. This is a fun effective way to improve your short game.
